Around fifty automobiles have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Cars, walls and mailboxes were vandalized, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they stated in a release.
Officers state they were alerted late on Wednesday night, when a individual observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored liquid.
The fluid had been drawn in the form of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Police then located many other smeared automobiles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials say early analysis indicate the fluid was probably human blood.
"At present there remains no indication as to its origin; authorities are presently not informed of any harm in relation with the event," they stated.
City officials announced they were attempting "to unravel the case" and have asked to the community for tips.
An important political figure said the vandalism rendered him stunned and needed to be solved promptly.
"This incident hits the center of Hanau and revives the wounds of the far-right terrorist attack five years ago," he wrote on social media, referring to the murder of nine individuals by a assailant focusing on individuals of immigrant origin in five years prior.
