The speculation surrounding The Game Awards was significant, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley posted a puzzling photo of a strange statue. The secret is finally answered. The acclaimed developer is creating a completely new Divinity game.
Revealed to be Divinity, the game was debuted with a bold trailer featuring striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the literal opening of infernal gates.
A Different Direction
Anyone anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. The studio clarified that a follow-up to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not on the cards right now.
However, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This phrasing suggests that the team could be designing a real-time experience as opposed to another turn-based title. At this moment, it remains theory, as only a announcement clip is available.
A Pillar of Modern RPGs
The Divinity series is widely praised and many say it sparked the recent resurgence of complex computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for rich lore, choice-driven narratives, and deep class systems—qualities that later found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is classic fantasy, what truly sets Divinity apart is the remarkable agency given to the player.
Where many modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is brimming with unique possibilities you can achieve with a distinct build with a unique decision path.
The series is also wonderfully permissive, enabling players to experiment both in story and combat. Most missions can be approached in diverse methods, sometimes in surprising fashion.
- You might find an answer because you heeded something an animal companion shared.
- Or, you could overcome an obstacle by teleporting a glob of lava in a clever way.
The Journey Continues
It is this design philosophy that allow people to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games of all time. Now, players can anticipate a new entry in this esteemed franchise.
